Mini Mutts Rescue was
founded in April 2004. We specialize in rescuing, fostering, and finding
homes for small mixed breed dogs 20 pounds or smaller.
Occasionally we'll take in a pure bred
small dog only if specifically asked by a pure bred rescue or an owner
turn in depending on space. All of our
dogs we rescue are just hours away from being put to sleep either by
injection or gassing in a shelter or pound. Recently we've become
involved in saving puppymill dogs from their horrible lives in
cages. These dogs come ######################################################################################################### 1ST ANNUAL MINI MUNCHIN' LUNCHEON was a HUGE SUCCESS! We got a desperate call from our local humane society the end of April 2009. They received a dog who was older AND heartworm positive and didn't have the funds to treat him and he was in danger of being put to sleep. They asked if we could take him into our rescue and of course we said "YES!". JD arrived the beginning of May and we treated him for his heartworm immediately. He not only survived but thrived under the wonderful, loving care of his foster mom. Such a wonderful relationship developed between the two we feared he would not adjust in a new home so we moved him to another foster home. JD adjusted quite well and turned out to be a wonderful foster dog! We thought we had a home for JD back in the summer but, after two long months, it just wasn't working out. The home's one dog and one cat and JD just didn't get along. JD came back into foster care and soon was discovered by Gloria's mom on Petfinder. After many emails, an application, and phone calls, Gloria and her daughter, Marianne, came to visit JD and it was love at first sight! JD is now living a wonderful life with Gloria. He is the center of her world and both are making each other very happy. No more loneliness for either JD or Gloria! Way to go JD, we're so happy for you! |

Johnathan Ryley Purcel - Born 7/24/06
Carla Nelson's (Founder) - second grandchild

1st Christmas Love my fingers!! Mushmouth! Baptism
Carla Nelson, Founder of Mini Mutts Rescue, would like you to welcome into the world her second grandchild, Johnathan Ryley Purcel who was born Friday evening, July 24th, at 8:49pm.
I can't believe our little guy is 5 months old already!! He's growing so fast and is such a joy to have around. He's decided he loves to eat, and eat, and eat and is now eating baby food. My daughter is happy about this as it gives her a little respite from nursing! Johnathan's starting to hold his bottle now (water and juices) and sitting up in his special baby chair. He's discovered he likes the snow and I'm sure we'll see him crawling around soon. Don't you just want to squeeze those cheeks?!!!
Keep checking back for updates because this Grandma is proud to show off this little bundle of joy!

Protect-A-Bed Mattress Protector Every rescuer and pet owner knows that dogs and cats will, from time to time, have an accident. As our pets get older, they can have trouble controlling their bladders and that tummy ache or accident no longer has to ruin your mattress. Why sleep on uncomfortable plastic liners, when Protect-A-Bed offers mattress protection and a comfortable night's rest?

MORE JUNIOR VOLUNTEERS!
Angelica (12) and Jacob (10) have collected many items for Mini Mutts Rescue. After they visited Carla's in the summer of 2008, they were so excited to help out the dogs. They created posters and flyers, advertised at school and took donations for the needs of Mini Mutts. Then on their birthdays last year, they both asked for Mini Mutt donations in lieu of gifts for themselves! Jacob also did a school Science Fair presentation on Mini Mutts to educate people on the need for rescues and the horrific puppy mill situations. During the Science Fair, Angelica advertised for donations. Peanut, the little chihuahua with only two front legs and uses a wheelchair, was a great inspiration to them! Welcome to Mini Mutts Rescue's Junior Volunteer Team Angelica and Jacob! |
Girl Scouts earn their Pet Care Badge

Girl Scout Troup #410 visited Mini Mutts Rescue on Friday, June 6, 2008, to learn about animals and how to properly care for them. We talked about caring for dogs including vet care, we talked about different diseases and prevention, and we learned about rescue in general. The girls all took a quiz before playing with the mini mutts and passed with flying colors! The highlight of the day, of course, was playing with the dogs and learning about each one and how they came into rescue. The girls then surprised me with a check, monies they earned from cookie sales, and an envelope of cash earned from Mrs. Watson's 4th grade class @ Leroy School from their chocolate sale. I was given specific instructions to save a puppymill dog with the cash which we will do as soon as we can.
Send us an email to learn how your troop can earn their Pet Care Badge.
